Wellesley Kitchen Tour

"The New Kitchen" Design Salon

Jan Gleysteen will be presenting at "The New Kitchen: Command Central - The Multifunctional Heart of the Home" on Wednesday, April 25 at the SieMatic showroom in Boston.

Today's kitchen is a sophisticated machine/space that serves as the social hub of the house and is becoming increasingly integrated with it's surroundings including the landscape.  Learn about the historical development of the modern kitchen, emerging trends, and innovative design solutions for the multifunctional heart of the home.

The design salon is part of a free spring series sponsored by Design New England and presented at the SieMatic showroom on Charles Street in Boston focusing on real solutions for the home.

 

Clarke Sub-Zero and Wolf Kitchen Design Contest

Jan Gleysteen Architects was recently honored in Clarke's 2011 Sub-Zero and Wolf Kitchen Design Contest for excellence in traditional kitchen design.  The winning design (shown above) combines painted and mahogany cabinetry to produce a modern kitchen with an old-world sensibility.  The award was announced at Clarke's Designer Appreciation Night at their Milford showroom.  Awards were also presented for contemporary kitchen design, best use of Wolf or Sub-Zero appliance outside the kitchen, and their first ever People's Choice Award.  Clarke is a highly recognized regional distributer of Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances with showrooms in Milford, MA and Norwalk, CT.

 

 

 

People's Choice - Clarke Kitchen Contest

Don't forget to vote for the People's Choice Award for Clarke's Sub-Zero and Wolf Design Contest.  At Jan Gleysteen Architects we strive to design the kitchen as the social and functional "heart of the home."  Take the opportunity to recognize the kitchen that speaks to you.  Browse through submissions from designers across New England and vote for your favorite entry.  The contest is sponsored by Clarke Kitchen Design Center where homeowners and designers can experience fully functioning showrooms featuring Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.  Winners will be announced on March 29th.

 

 

Sustainable Wellesley Symposium Broadcast

Don't miss the inaugural broadcast of the Sustainable Wellesley Symposium featuring Wellesley's LEED^® for Homes Gold certified residence designed by Jan Gleysteen Architects.  The Symposium airs on the Wellesley Community Channel (ch.9 or 39) thru January 15th.  Tune in at 8pm on Thursday, January 12th for a presentation by Jan Gleysteen on his design for the first LEED certified home in Wellesley.  The home features a compact footprint and careful solar orientation as passive and active systems work together to minimize the home's environmental impact.

 

The Sustainable Wellesley Expo and Symposium was a town-wide event held in 2010 to promote the Town of Wellesley's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 10% by 2013.  The event highlighted the Town's energy conservation and renewable energy efforts as well as residents' efforts to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.  The Symposium will be broadcast in its entirety at 8am on Sunday, Jaunary 15th and will be available on the Wellesley Media website in the OnDemand Video Library after the broadcast.

Doric Hall Exhibition

Our award-winning Greek Revivial residence will be on display in the Doric Hall of the Massachusetts State House from Monday, November 28th until Friday, December 2nd as part of an exhibition honoring the winners of the 2011 Bulfinch Award.

The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art will host an award ceremony on November 30th in the Grand Staircase Hall featuring keynote speaker Judge Douglas Woodlock, the recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture.  For information on attending the ceremony please contact the ICA&A.

 

 

2011 Dream Home Awards

Jan Gleysteen Architects has been recognized twice by the 2011 Dream Home Awards, earning Gold Awards in two categories.  The firm has been awarded “Best Custom Home over 9,000 SF” for a private residence in Weston (shown above) and “Best Exterior Makeover” (shown below) for their renovation of a 1930's Needham colonial.  The Dream Home Awards nationally recognize those who set new standards of excellence in the building industry.  Winning projects are published in the 2011 edition of "Hab-i-ta-tion" magazine.

2011 Prism Awards

Jan Gleysteen Architects is the proud recipient of two PRISM Awards from BAGB. The firm earned Silver for "Best Single Family Home 4,000 to 6,000 SF" (above left) and Gold for "Best Single Family Home over 6000 SF" (above right).  The PRISM Awards are presented annually in recognition of excellence in building, design, sales, and marketing by the Builders Association of Greater Boston.  Awards were presented at a Mardi Gras Carnivale Ball at the House of Blues in October.  Be sure to check out the November/December issue of Design New England where we will be featured along with the rest of this year's winners.
